Love for God & Sports
Growing up in Vancouver, two passions were always central to my life: God and sports. I still remember receiving my first Bible in Spanish from my dad when I was eight years old. I can clearly picture its blue-and-grey cover with a cross design. He would give us verses to read, and we would often discuss them together at the kitchen table with my mom and brother. I still have that Bible today, and as an adult, I have also added a bilingual version. The scripture has not changed, but my understanding of it has deepened as I have grown older.
While my faith means everything to me, sports has taught me the importance of discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and humility. Many lessons connect my faith and sports: trusting the process, encouraging others, learning from setbacks, and never giving up. Above all, my love for God is at the heart of who I am. I deeply enjoy sports, but my faith gives that passion purpose and meaning. That purpose, with the blessing of Mutual Ministry, led me to launch a Sports Ministry at Spirit of Life.
The goal of the Sports Ministry—yes, gooooaaaaal!—is to create opportunities for people to spend time together, build meaningful relationships, and grow in faith. It will be a welcoming community where everyone feels supported and encouraged. Activities will include a variety of sports, recreational games, casual gatherings, and fun opportunities to connect—no experience needed and all abilities welcomed. At the heart of the Sports Ministry are the people. We will celebrate one another’s victories, walk alongside each other, and cheer for our teams and for one another.
The hope is that this ministry becomes a place where people can have fun, build friendships, discover community, and most importantly, grow closer to God together.
Stay tuned for activities coming up in October and November of 2026! Feel free to message me if you would like to join the committee - (lupita.sibrian@outlook.com).
And remember, the world’s best goalkeeper is Jesus! He always saves!
